The Opportunity

As Superintendent, you will lead project level field operations and be responsible for the overall success of the construction site. You will oversee safety, schedule, quality, logistics, subcontractor coordination, and site culture while working closely with Project Managers, clients, consultants, and trade partners. You will be empowered to lead proactively, solve problems collaboratively, and continuously improve how projects are delivered. Whether working on local Edmonton-area projects or out-of-town assignments, you will join a team that values accountability, initiative, professionalism, and respect.

What You’ll be Doing

Jobsite Operations Management
  • Lead and manage all day-to-day site operations from mobilization through turnover
  • Maintain care and control of the construction site
  • Coordinate trade partners, suppliers, manpower, equipment, and site logistics
  • Manage construction workflow and proactively remove obstacles to maintain project momentum
  • Lead short interval planning, look-ahead scheduling, and coordination meetings using The Last Planner System® and Takt Planning.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project objectives
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to identify risks, resolve issues, and support successful project delivery
  • Maintain organized, clean, and professional project sites
  • Support commissioning, deficiency management, project closeout, and warranty activities
Safety & Quality
  • Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with OH&S regulations and Unitech safety standards
  • Conduct site orientations, toolbox talks, inspections, and hazard assessments
  • Promote accountability and respect for safety across all site personnel
  • Lead QA/QC processes and ensure workmanship excellence throughout all project phases
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and permit requirements as required
Communication & Relationships
  • Serve as the primary on-site representative for Unitech with clients, consultants, trade partners, and the public
  • Build strong working relationships rooted in trust, integrity, and proactive communication
  • Maintain daily reporting, progress tracking, and site documentation including project photography
  • Foster positive morale, collaboration, and teamwork across all stakeholders
  • Support and mentor Assistant Superintendents, field staff, and emerging leaders
Lean Construction & Continuous Improvement
  • Support lean construction practices and collaborative planning processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maximize client value
  • Contribute ideas, innovation, and lessons learned to strengthen project delivery and team performance

Your Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a Superintendent or site leadership role with a general contractor
  • Strong background in commercial, institutional, mixed-use, or multi-family construction
  • Thorough understanding of construction methods, drawings, specifications, and Alberta building codes
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, logistics, subcontractors, and site coordination activities
  • Experience leading projects through all phases of construction from startup to closeout
  • Strong understanding of site safety management and Prime Contractor responsibilities
  • Ability to lead confidently in fast-paced environments while maintaining professionalism and composure
  • Journeyman trade certification or related construction education is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software
  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid and relevant safety certifications considered an asset

Compensation

$90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
